Feeling Great
Most people think that how they feel is an indicator of how healthy they are. It’s not true.
Let’s say you unknowingly eat some spoiled food. Later you get stomach cramps and vomit. You certainly don’t feel well, but thankfully your body is functioning correctly. Imagine the tragic consequences of taking a drug to calm your stomach, retaining the toxic food!
Functioning Great
Your brain, spinal cord and all of your nerves control and regulate your body. Every cell, tissue, organ and system (even your immune system!) take orders from your nervous system.
Thus, true health is how well your nervous system is orchestrating the workings of your body. That’s why vertebral subluxations are so serious! Compromised brain-to-body or body-to-brain communications are the underlying cause of a variety of health problems.
Many people with a spinal problem discover that other health problems resolve with chiropractic care. Reducing nervous system disturbances along the spine has been shown to produce positive changes throughout the body.
If we were playing Family Feud and the question came up, "Name the Top 5 defitions of health…" the top two answers would likely be: Feeling good and no pain or sickness. Well, unfortunately those are certainly the two most common answers to that question in the United States, but both have nothing to do with the actual correct answer.
Those answers only tell us what health isn’t, not what it actually is. Most of us look at our health in this way, and in my opinion this is the #1 reason why we are the sickest country in the world. Health is something, it is something attainable, something worth having. When we seek and attain health, our lives are infinitely better than when we merely try to avoid sickness and disease.
This simple definition of health also tells us everything that is wrong with our current "health care" system. When do you seek out "health care" in this country? When you are sick and in pain, not when you are healthy. What are the majority of our "health care" providers trained in? Sickness and disease, not health and wellness. The cold hard fact is that medicine has nothing to do with being healthy, it only works on sickness and disease, so in reality it is sick care. So if you want more sickness and disease, then medicine is a great place to be. But if you want health and wellness, then you have to turn to someone who actually knows what that is.
As a chiropractor, I am trained in health and wellness and will teach you to be as well. Instead of using fear and marketing to help you attempt to avoid sickness and disease (how is that working for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer right now?), we will teach you how to build your health from within, allowing you to live a full and prosperous life, rather than one where you are merely "kept alive" by drugs and surgery. Don’t be confused, find the real answers and contact our office today, it is never to late to start understanding what it means to be truly HEALTHY!
Imagine a man with high blood pressure decides to perform an experiment, to determine the true difference between two types of doctors, medical doctors and chiropractors. First, the man visits his medical doctor. One of the first tests performed in a medical office is typically blood pressure readings. Like clockwork, a nurse comes in and takes the man’s blood pressure. The reading comes up as 145/95… not excessive, but not ideal either. The medical doctor comes in and states, "Nurse Bonnie informs me your blood pressure was quite high today, it looks like we are going to have to get that lowered so we can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. Here is a prescription for some blood pressure medicine, follow the directions from the pharmacist and let me know if you have any questions. We will also be taking a blood test today, I am worried that you have high cholesterol and may need a statin drug as well to help lower the cholesterol. We will call you with those results. Have a good day." Before leaving the man may say, "But doc, is there anything else I can do?" Doctor replies, "Yes, some exercise and a good diet may help, here is a handout that tells you some good things to do, have a good day."
Now the man heads to his chiropractor. Upon entering the examination room the chiropractor starts to ask the man some questions, usually the first of which is, "What can you tell me about your overall health sir?" Thinking for a moment the man may say, "Well, it’s probably not the greatest right now as I’m quite busy and stressed at work, which has caused me to start eating a lot of fast food and I haven’t been able to work out as much as I used to. I end up sitting a computer all day and by the time I get home my neck and head are killing me. I still feel good for the most part, but I could use a little more energy and stand to drop 20-30 pounds I suppose."
The chiropractor responds by saying, "It seems to me that you’ve pretty much answered all your own questions right there. As you know a healthy lifestyle is essential to a healthy body. In your answer there, you provided me with multiple reasons why you have the complaints you do. As a chiropractor, I look at three factors that adversely affect your health, the basics of which are eating well, moving well, and thinking well. With a lifestyle of high stress, poor diet and posture, and lack of exercise, it is quite common to experience many of the issues you are having. Has your medical doctor helped you with any of this?"
The man replies, "Actually I just saw him this morning. Turns out I have high blood pressure and likely high cholesterol, but that should be fine as he prescribed me some drugs for that."
The chiropractor likely then comes back by saying, "Well sir, to me it is quite clear to me that your high blood pressure is caused by the things we just discussed, high stress levels, poor diet, and lack of exercise. In addition, chiropractic has recently been shown to lower blood pressure. When the joints of your spine become misaligned and fixated, you are left with something called a subluxation. Subluxation, specifically of the upper neck, damages the nervous system and can lead to changes in blood flow and thus blood pressure. By removing the subluxations and helping you to lead a healthier lifestyle, it should be a piece of cake to getting your blood pressure back to normal without having to resort to drugs. In addition, you will likely see a reduction in pain, an improvement in your energy and mood, and there are no real side effects. Which would you like to choose?"
Moral of the story… the medical doctor is likely to only ask "what is the problem?" and the chiropractor will not only ask what, but most importantly will ask "why is this a problem?" Don’t rely on just attempting to cover up the what (i.e. symptom), instead find a way to remove the why!"
