Dr. Jennifer Givens
Certified Pediatric Chiropractor
The Road to Chiropractic
Dr. Jennifer grew up in Peoria, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. From an early age she played competitive softball and grew to love the sport and team atmosphere. She traveled all around the southwest United States and even Canada for tournaments. Through high school and college, she worked as a counselor for summer camps for four and five year old children. During these summers, she realized that she truly enjoys interacting with children and it became a dream of hers to work with children in the future.
Dr. Jennifer attended Arizona State University on a full academic scholarship and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. During sophomore year at ASU, she was assigned a job shadowing assignment and decided to shadow a chiropractor. She absolutely fell in love with the profession, the office atmosphere and the interaction with the patients. After this experience, she decided to work in a chiropractic office as a Chiropractic Assistant; this is when she realized that being in a chiropractic office was where she was meant to be.
A Passion for Working With Children
Dr. Jennifer continued her education at Palmer College of Chiropractic. During her first week at Palmer, she went to listen to a night of speakers, one of which was Dr. Tony Ebel. Her passion for children resurfaced during Dr. Tony’s speech that night and she quickly realized that pediatric chiropractic was exactly what she was meant to do. Throughout her three years at Palmer, she worked as a bone anatomy tutor, was part of the women’s softball team and also worked as a radiology intern. As an extracurricular activity, Dr. Jennifer began working on her pediatric certificate, through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and would travel to the Chicago area once or twice a month to complete her weekend seminars. Dr. Jennifer has really enjoyed fine-tuning her skills with pediatrics and will be completing her certification later this year.
Before starting her internship in Arizona, Dr. Jennifer attended a clinic abroad trip to Brazil and was quickly considered the pediatric doc due to the passion and excitement she expressed when adjusting the little ones. One of the most memorable moments from Brazil is when Dr. Jennifer gave a shy three year old girl her first chiropractic adjustment.
It took about 20 minutes of playing with this little girl to gain her trust, offerings of smiles and stickers meant nothing to her, not until I got down on the floor and showed her how my reflex hammer worked, did we become friends.
“After checking her, she began to just relax in my hands. I adjusted her and on the way out of the clinic she literally waved bye to me the entire walk to the door. It’s so awesome adjusting children and especially rewarding when I can become friends with someone without using any words. This moment will forever be a reminder of my passion and mission in life.”
During her internship, Dr. Jennifer had the privilege of working with many pregnant patients. Here she discovered her passion for adjusting and being an advocate for pregnant mothers.
“I really enjoy reminding mothers that they are strong and that their bodies are made for this natural process. I also like to remind them to listen to their mother’s intuition, which tells them exactly what they need to do for themselves and their children. Trust it!”
Now that Dr. Jennifer is part of the team at PWC Chiropractic, she is beyond excited to continue with her passion for providing families and children with specific chiropractic care.
Dr. Jennifer enjoys hobbies such as hiking, camping, reading, cooking with her husband, and spending time with friends, family and her two miniature dachshunds, Jadie and Gracie!
